Ottis Leon Herring

Leon Herring, 77 years old, passed away Thursday evening at his home in Courtland, MS. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, 3/28/09, at 10:00 a.m. at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Batesville, MS. Dr. Tommy Williamson will officiate the service. Leon was born on October 17, 1931 in Union County, MS to Carl & Doyle McDonald Herring. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Courtland, MS. Leon had retired from Talbot Brothers Construction Company as a road and bridge foreman after 30 years of service. He leaves his wife, Merle Beavers Herring of Batesville, MS; 3 Daughters: Marilyn Elliott of Greenwood, MS; Anne Beard of Courtland, MS; Sandra Staten of Charleston, MS; 1 Son: Mike Dorris of Oakland, MS; 1 Sister: Margie Clark of Batesville, MS; 1 brother: Carl Herring, Jr. of Silvercreek, MS; 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
