Billy Joe McCain passed away on August 25, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. Born on November 13, 1947, at Bramlett Hospital in Oxford, Billy Joe lived a life rich in dedication, family, and service.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Church of God, in Batesville on Friday, August 29, 2025. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 prior to the service. Interment will take place at Goshen Cemetery in Coffeeville.

For many years, Billy Joe worked tirelessly for the City of Oxford and Oliphant Construction, before joining the University of Mississippi Physical Plant, where he served until his retirement in 2013. His strong work ethic and commitment to his job reflected his character and devotion to the community he loved.

Billy Joe was a man of many interests and hobbies. He found immense joy in riding his mule on trail rides through the woods. In his younger days he delighted in the sounds of nature, particularly relishing the thrill of hunting, hearing the dogs run rabbits through the woods. He also liked fishing. Billy Joe spent countless hours riding his side by side on trails enjoying the outdoors. He tended to a vegetable garden, a passion he held dearly until he was unable to work in it.

An active member of the New Hope Church of God in Batesville, Billy Joe took pride in his church community. He greatly valued his Pastor and enjoyed his role within the church, always being the first to make coffee early on Sunday mornings, a testament to his generous spirit and love for fellowship.

In his personal life, Billy Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Ella Jean McCain, with whom he shared 31 wonderful years. He was the proud father of two daughters, Sarah Turner (Kimbol) and Heather Jo McCain; one son, Wayne Roscoe (Cindy), and a loving figure to his bonus children: Eugene Pipkin (Pam), Frank Pipkin (Myrna), and Melinda Pipkin Shields (Tony). He cherished his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved deeply. Billy Joe found great joy in these children.

Billy Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Gurvis Willa McCain and Venera Cooper McCain, as well as his daughter Amanda McCain Pipkin and siblings Johnnie McCain White, Bula Faye McCain Bell, Alice Lee McCain Williams, and Tomas (Tom) McCain.

Billy Joe McCain’s legacy will live on through his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, steadfast commitment, and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him.

Billy Joe McCain's legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and faith will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
