Obituary

Billy Newton Williams, 83, passed away Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026 at his home near Sardis, Mississippi.

Billy was born on June 14, 1942, in Panola County, Mississippi to the late Jimmie Williams and Vivian Mays Williams. His life was marked by hard work, humor, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.

In his early years, Billy contributed his skills as a toolmaker at the former Blair Machine Works, a foundation that reflected his meticulous nature and strong work ethic. Later, he embraced a new and deeply fulfilling role alongside his beloved wife, Mary, running an at-home daycare in their home. Over the years, they lovingly cared for more than a hundred children, each of whom held a special place in Billy's heart and life. Billy was affectionately known as “Papaw” to everyone.

Billy was always quick with a prank or a joke, bringing laughter and joy to his family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes included gardening and woodworking, passions that brought him great happiness. His love for his grandchildren was profound, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Billy also attended Terza Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Williams of Sardis, MS; his two sons, Ray Williams of Springfield, MO, and Royce Williams (Tina) of Sardis, MS; and his sister Nancy "Sis" Carlisle of Mountain View, AR. Billy's legacy continues through his grandchildren Casey Williams (Jessica), Bryan Williams (Melissa), Alecia Howell (Jonathan), Kristen Hardin (Tyler), Phillip Hentz, and Thomas "Trae" Crenshaw, as well as his great-grandchildren Kayleigh, Molleigh, Charleigh, Merrick, Halleigh, Elise, Anderson, Lawson, Mallory, Tucker, and Maverick, all of whom held a treasured place in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Williams and Vivian Mays Williams, and his brothers Coy Williams, Sammy Williams, Roy Williams, Loyd Williams, and Jimmie "Buck" Williams, Jr.

Per Mr. Billy’s wishes, there will be no services held.
