Chad Deaton Smith, age 50, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at his home in Prattville, AL.

A celebration of his life will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. A time of visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 18, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home.

Chad was born on June 2, 1976, in Batesville, Mississippi to Mark Deaton and Donna Davis Smith. Chad’s life was a woven with love, generosity, and adventure—a life cherished deeply by all who knew him.

He graduated as a proud member of the South Panola High School Class of 1994, and even as a young man, he radiated friendliness, never meeting a stranger and always offering a helping hand. Friends and family often recall that Chad’s spirited love for people was as natural to him. Whether it was a familiar face or someone new, he greeted all with genuine kindness and open arms.

Chad built a meaningful career as a Pipeline Instrumentation Specialist for Southern Pipe Gas Company, embracing his work with dedication and integrity. His colleagues admired his strong work ethic and willingness to lend his expertise wherever he could make a difference, true to his giving nature.

There was so much more to Chad than his achievements at work. His passions overflowed into every area of his life. Photography allowed him to capture the world as he saw it—full of beauty and wonder. Music was the rhythm to his days, fishing and hunting were his peaceful retreats, and his adventurous heart led him to explore the great outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent out on his boat, or beside a campfire, deep in conversation beneath the stars. These moments reflected his love for life and the people who filled it.

Yet, above all else, family was Chad’s greatest joy. The depth of his love was most evident in his devotion to his wife, Ashley Wilson Smith, and his children, Chandler Deaton Smith, Savannah Lake Smith, and Alden Mikhail Gray. Time spent with his grandchildren, Leland Elijah Livingston and Rylynn Elise Smith, brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. His eyes would light up, there would be laughter all around, and his heart was truly at home.

Chad’s circle of love included his parents, Mark Deaton Smith and Donna Davis Smith, and his brother, Chris Smith (Jessica), each of whom shared in his adventures and supported him through all of life’s seasons. As a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, Chad was the steady center of a loving family deeply bonded by his generous spirit and unwavering support.

The roots of Chad’s compassion and strength reach back to beloved family who preceded him in death: his grandfathers, Emmett Millard Davis, Sr. and Gaines Byron Smith, and his grandmothers, Rosemary Hudson Davis and Mary Ruth Deaton Smith.

To know Chad was to know laughter, love, and loyal friendship. He lived life fully and unreservedly, teaching by example that the heart’s capacity for goodness is limitless. His absence leaves a space impossible to fill, yet his spirit endures in every cherished memory, each story by the campfire, and every gentle gesture of kindness he bestowed.

As we gather to honor Chad Deaton Smith, we remember a life lived with open-hearted generosity, adventurous spirit, and steady compassion. His legacy will forever inspire those who were privileged to know and love him.
