Charles Hugh Pickett

Charles Hugh “Charlie” Pickett, born September 1, 1935, in Pope, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, in Oxford, Mississippi. He was 90 years old. Charlie’s long life was marked by service, devotion to craft, and steadfast commitment to the people and principles he held dear.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 13, 2026, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope, MS. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, July 12, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 at Wells Funeral Home.

Charlie grew up in Pope, where he learned early the values of hard work, family, and integrity—values that would guide him throughout his life. A proud electrician by trade, Charlie demonstrated a dedication to his work that earned him respect and admiration among peers, friends, and clients. His skillful hands and sharp mind made a lasting impact on all those whose lives he touched through his work. Charlie and Pattie, working together, once owned a store on Enid Lake, a BBQ diner in Pope, and an antique shop in Sardis. Charlie had a special love for Western movies and particularly those staring the infamous Mr. John Wayne.

Charlie was also deeply committed to serving his country and community. For sixteen and a half years, he served honorably as a Sergeant E-5 in the Mississippi National Guard. His leadership and sense of duty were evident in every aspect of his service, and his contributions left a lasting mark on those with whom he served.

Among his many accomplishments, Charlie was a proud Master Mason of Panola Lodge 66 and a devoted Shriner for over fifty years. These affiliations brought him great satisfaction and friendships that lasted a lifetime. His involvement with these organizations reflected not only his sense of camaraderie but also his enduring commitment to benevolence, charity, and brotherhood.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Moore "Pattie" Pickett of Pope. He will be greatly missed by his children, James M. Pickett (the late Stephanie) of Pope, Penny E. Decker (John) of Victoria, TX, Mandy Worsham (Phillip) of Kat Springs, TX, Patrick B. Pickett (Roxann) of Victoria, TX, and his step-daughter Ashley Thorgmorton of Pope. He also leaves behind eleven precious grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Each of whom held a special place in his heart and will carry forward his memory with affection and pride.

He was preceded in death by his father, Brady M. Pickett, his mother, Zelma Baker Pickett, his sister; Frances Pickett, and three brothers; James Edward Pickett, Jack Pickett and Jerry Pickett. The memory of their love and guidance endured as a source of comfort and inspiration to Charlie throughout his years.

Charlie Pickett’s legacy is found in the work of his hands, the steadfastness of his commitments, and the lasting bonds of family and fellowship he fostered across his remarkable ninety years. He will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Charles’ charities, Tunnel to Towers & Shriner's Children’s Hospital.
