Obituary

David Lamar "Blacky" Black, age 73, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at his home in Lambert, MS.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends at 12:00 P.M. prior to the service.

David was born on January 6, 1953, in Marks, Mississippi, he embraced life with a quiet strength and an affectionate heart that touched everyone who knew him.

David was a retired construction worker who found true joy in the physical manifestation of his ideas—building projects that reflected his creativity and dedication. Yet, his passions reached far beyond his career. He spent many hours tending to his flower and vegetable gardens, all while enjoying the outdoors. Being surrounded by nature was where David felt most at peace, and he cherished visiting with family and friends in these simple, heartfelt moments. His gentle affection for animals was also a testament to his compassionate spirit.

Known fondly as "Blacky," David leaves behind a strong family bond including his beloved sisters, Debbie Black Johns of Lambert, Mississippi and Pat Black Maddox of Florien, Louisiana. His legacy continues through his extended family: his aunt, Betty Malone (Pat) of Darling, Mississippi; two loving nieces, Shauanna Black and Brandy Boyne; and six nephews – Shannon Weaver, Scotty Weaver, Phillip Ellis, Joey Black, Jack Butler, Jr., and Ben Butler. David’s life was also enriched by a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry fond memories of his tenderness and warmth.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Selvester and Minerva Ernestine Black, whose values and love shaped the man he became. He also mourns the loss of his brother, Glenn Black, whose memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved them both.
