David Newton LaVergne, age 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at his home in Batesville, Mississippi. David was born on January 3, 1952, in Baytown, Texas, and lived a life marked by his strong values, passion for his work, and a tender love for his family.
David was a respected retired banker, having dedicated many years to both First Security Bank and Covenant Bank in Batesville. With a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, he was a life-long fan of all things Aggie.
Beyond his professional achievements, David was a baseball and football sports enthusiast who also greatly enjoyed the outdoors. Additionally, he found joy in listening to music, often sharing his favorite tunes with loved ones. David's passion for literature was evident in his extensive library of books, especially anything historical, for his daily reading.
A current member of the noon Explorer’s Bible Study class and Batesville First Methodist Church, David drew strength from his faith and community, building lasting relationships that enriched his life.
He leaves behind his wife, Kim Ulrich LaVergne of Batesville, MS, and their daughters, Lauren LaVergne of Sarah, MS, and Leslie LaVergne of Hattiesburg, MS; sons-in-law Tim Buckner, and James Thomas Hall, Jr , and two grandchildren Hazel and Booker. David is also survived by his mother, Wanda Gorden of Baytown, TX, his sister, Diane Van Cleave of College Station, TX, and his brother, Tommy LaVergne of Sugar Land, TX. David is preceded in death by his father, Alexander Curtis LaVergne.
Visitation for friends will be held on Friday, October 31, from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. at Batesville First Methodist Church Activities Building on Panola Avenue, Batesville, MS. A memorial visitation will be scheduled soon in Baytown, Texas, so that his 97-year-old mother may attend. Memorials may be given to The Grace Place, P.O. Box 1259, Batesville, MS 38606.
