David Thomas Still Sr. passed away on June 27, 2026, in Auburn, Washington, at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
There will be a graveside service held for David at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery.
Born on August 23, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, David lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, steadfast leadership, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University and went on to build a distinguished career with Weyerhaeuser. Joining the company in 1975, he served in a variety of roles before rising to Vice President and General Manager of Weyerhaeuser Building Materials. Throughout his career, he was respected for his integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to lead with both confidence and kindness. Colleagues valued his wisdom, sense of humor, and genuine care for others.
Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Esther Still; his son, Tom Still, and Tom’s wife, Joan, along with their daughters, Brooklyn and Paige; and his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Paul, along with their sons, Hans and Asher. He treasured his family and found great joy in being present for the lives of those he loved. Whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or simply spending time together, David had a gift for making every moment meaningful.
A committed Christian, David was an active member of Kent Covenant Church and Bible Study Fellowship and lived out his faith through service, generosity, and compassion. He was also involved with Habitat for Humanity, reflecting his desire to help others and make a positive difference in the community. His life was a testament to servant leadership and genuine concern for the well-being of others.
David loved travel, the outdoors, and adventure. He enjoyed climbing mountains, hiking, and spending time on Lake Chelan, where he was happiest behind the wheel of a boat. He pulled countless family members and friends on water skis, wake boards, and tubes, earning the affectionate nickname “Big Wave Dave.” He also had a lifelong passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, Mississippi State football, and the South Panola Tigers.
Those who knew David will remember him as generous, funny, optimistic, and deeply caring. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and valued. His stories, laughter, and warm presence brought joy to family gatherings, friendships, and everyday conversations. Even in difficult times, he remained grounded in faith and hope. He took a sincere interest in the lives of others, and many sought his wise counsel and encouragement.
David’s life was one of devotion, accomplishment, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, church family, friends, former co-workers and classmates, and all whose lives he touched. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration, and his legacy will live on in the many people blessed by his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity in memory of David.
