At just 15 years old—underage but determined—he left home in 1955 to serve his country, joining the United States Marine Corps. He went on to complete a distinguished 22-year military career, serving both as a U.S. Marine and later as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Devoted to his family above all else, Sid—known affectionately as “Pop”—was a leader, caretaker, and constant source of love and support for anyone in need.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lois “Manny” Heafner and Florence Heafner, as well as his brothers Orman and Henry Heafner.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce, whom he lovingly called “Honeywah”; his sons, Orman & wife Julie Heafner, Darrell & wife Cissy Heafner; his daughter, Dana Heafner Roberts and husband Brandon. He is also survived by his brother Tommy Heafner, sister, Doris Heafner Coleman and husband Tracy. He leaves behind 12 cherished grandchildren: Allie Heafner Hicks, Aaron Wayne Heafner, Kirsten Heafner Cekro, Danielle Heafner Williams, Emily Heafner, Aubrey Jane Heafner, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Heafner, Bryce Haddaway, Gage Haddaway, Kayne Haddaway, Brynn Roberts, and Brylee Roberts.
