George Reaves, age 80, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026 at his home in Duck Hill, Mississippi.
Funeral services for George will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. George will be laid to rest beside his wife Joyce at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarksdale, MS.
George was born August 4, 1945, in Tutwiler, Mississippi to the late George Lee Reaves, Sr. and Marjorie Taylor Reaves.
George honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He spent most of his life tending the fields as a farmer in Clarksdale, Mississippi—a vocation he pursued for 20 years. After his farming career, George embarked on a second chapter, joining Saia Freight as a truck driver. With the same steadfastness that defined his every endeavor, he faithfully served in this capacity until his retirement in 2012.
A man deeply anchored in his faith; George was a beloved member of Elliott Baptist Church. He cherished his time in bible study and found profound joy in reading the Bible—an endeavor he pursued with dedication, reading it in its entirety at least five times. His spiritual life was a guiding light, both to himself and to those who knew him, and his love for his Lord and Savior was evident in all that he did.
George is survived by his devoted daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Wright of Duck Hill; his brother, Jim Reaves of Michigan; his sister, Ann Bailey of Southaven, Mississippi; and his beloved feline grandchildren, Marble Tulip and Cassie.
Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Reaves and their son, George Lee Reaves, III.
