George Elvis Stallcup, age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Panola Medical Center in Batesville, MS.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends beginning at 1:00 P.M.
George was born on July 14, 1935, in Gleason, Tennessee, to the late Pete Alfus and Irene Sawyer Stallcup.
George’s youthful years were shaped by his service in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served his country with honor. After his military tenure, he embarked on a career as an over-the-road truck driver, a profession that allowed him to explore diverse parts of the country while supporting his loved ones.
Beyond his professional life, George was a man of many talents. A mechanic at heart, his remarkable ability to repair anything from boats to automobiles was renowned among family and friends. He delighted in spending time boating on Sardis Lake and was an avid traveler who embraced the joys of discovering new places. Among the many pleasures of life, George always cherished a good meal, often sharing laughter and stories around the table.
Most treasured among George’s accomplishments was his role as a loving and devoted father. He placed his children and family above all else, an eternal testament to his character and values. His dedication to their well-being left a legacy of love and care.
George is survived by his loving partner, Lynn Forbess of Sardis, Mississippi. He is also lovingly remembered by his children: Debbie Lynn Reese and her husband Mike of Big Sandy, Tennessee; Joe Mitchell Stallcup and his wife Vickie of Sardis, Mississippi; James Michael Stallcup and his wife Young of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and his brother, Robert Stallcup of Arlington, Tennessee. He treasured the companionship of his daughter-in-law Lisa Stallcup of Keller, Texas. George’s family circle extended to six grandchildren—Stephen Lee McGoldrick, Natasha Lynn Robinson, Shawna Leigh Harris, Thomas Michael Stallcup, Andrew Stallcup, and Amanda Nicole Stallcup—and four great-grandchildren: Alana, Emma, Kristopher, and Lucas. Each was held dear in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Pete Alfus and Irene Sawyer Stallcup, his son John Mark Stallcup, and sisters Jeanie Travis and Dottie Harper.
George Elvis Stallcup’s life was one of enduring commitment—to family, to his country, and to the quiet joys of daily life. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
