Helen Griffis, age 80, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 at her home in Marks, Mississippi.
Funeral services for Helen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Marks, MS with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Helen was born on July 12, 1945 in Marks, Mississippi to the late Alan Smith Bland and Jemell Burchfield Bland. She dedicated her life to her family, faith, and the simple joys that enriched her world.
Throughout her lifetime, Helen found profound fulfillment in nurturing her home and family. Her devotion extended far beyond her immediate household; she was a pillar of love and support for many. Helen’s heart was especially full when surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. She also found great joy in gardening. Helen remained a faithful and active member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Marks, Mississippi, where her spirit of community and faith touched many.
Helen’s family and friends remember her as a warm, caring soul whose presence was a source of comfort and happiness. She is survived by her children: Tammy Blaylock (Bubba) of Yazoo City, MS; Michael (Tammy) of Sledge, MS; Kenny Edge of Marks, MS; Wanda Cook (the late Jerome) of Marks, MS; Tina Dungan (Maylon) of Walls, MS, and Christopher Edge of Batesville, MS. She also leaves behind her sister, Eloise Williams of Batesville, MS, and her brother, Lewis Bland of Charleston, MS. Her legacy continues through 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring love she cultivated throughout her life.
Helen was preceded in death by her two daughters, Mary Helen Lenard and Carolyn Faye Phillips. She also joined her parents, Alan Smith Bland and Jemell Burchfield Bland, and twenty siblings who have all passed before her.
Helen Griffis’s life was one of devotion—to her family, her faith, and her community. She leaves behind a rich heritage of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
