James "Barton" Rutherford, Jr., age 47, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 28, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
He was born on April 2, 1978, in Batesville, Mississippi to the late James B. and Kathie Sue White Rutherford. Barton was a cherished husband, father, and brother whose life was characterized by a strong work ethic and a profound passion for construction.
Barton dedicated his career to construction, where his skills and craftsmanship shone brightly. He took great pride in his work and had an undeniable talent for building things with his hands, taking joy in every project he undertook. He was known among his friends for his unwavering determination and his unique approach to life's challenges, always ensuring that no problem remained unresolved.
Outside of his professional life, Barton enjoyed drag racing, which ignited a vibrant spirit within him. He found deep fulfillment in spending quality time with his children, instilling in them values of hard work and resilience.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica Hope Rutherford, of Pope, Mississippi; his children, Savanna Lutton of Phoenix, Arizona, Zackary Rutherford of Phoenix, Arizona, Dillon Koke of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Austin Ragon of Pope, Mississippi, and Hemi Rutherford of Pope, Mississippi. Barton was also a proud grandfather to his two grandchildren, Lexi Lutton and William Lutton.
Barton is mourned by his sister, Linda Tiner (Tom) of Oakland, Mississippi, and leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Kathie Sue White Rutherford, who welcomed him into the world and nurtured his passions throughout his life.
