With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of James Thomas (Tommy) Bonner, Jr., a cherished son, veteran, and beloved father. Born on April 2, 1954, Tommy transitioned from this life on September 29, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Tommy dedicated over 16 years to the Batesville Casket Company and spent an impressive 21 years working for Panola Mills. In addition to his professional commitments, Tommy was a proud US Marine Veteran, a testament to his character and commitment to his country.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Tommy will remember him for his joy in joking with family and friends. He possessed a unique ability to light up a room, making moments shared with him truly unforgettable. Whether it was engaging in friendly competition over a game of dominoes, enjoying the tranquility of bass fishing, watching tv, or indulging in the simple pleasures of a farming game on his phone, Tommy found delight in life’s smaller joys.
Tommy’s vibrant spirit is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Bonner Morgan of Como, MS, and his son, Daniel Bonner of Courtland, MS. His heart will reside with his mother, Carol Jean Manning Bonner of Batesville, MS, and siblings Judy Tutor of Batesville, MS, Diane Morton of Texas, and Johnny Bonner of Maine. Tommy also leaves behind two adoring grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bonner and Bradley Bonner, and three step-grandchildren, who filled his life with joy.
His absence will be profoundly felt, especially by those who were fortunate enough to call him family. Tommy’s soul now joins his departed loved ones, including his beloved wife, Kathleen Daugherty Bonner, step-daughter Melissa King Pitts, brother David Bonner, and father James T. Bonner, Sr.
Visitation will be held on October 5, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Hosanna Worship Center located at 586 Hentz Road, Pope, MS 38658.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tommy’s caregiver, Edna Waggle for her selfless devotion to James.
