Janie Alred Caine, age 74, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at her home in Courtland, MS.
The family will be celebrating Janie's life Saturday morning, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Courtland, MS. The family will receive friends Friday evening, April 3, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Wells Funeral Home.
Janie was born on January 9, 1952, in Batesville, Mississippi to the late Elvin Thomas Alred, Sr. and Annie Josephine Still Alred.
Janie dedicated many years of her life working at the former Panola Mills Factory in Batesville, Mississippi, where she built lasting relationships and contributed significantly to the local economy. Retirement allowed her to fully immerse herself in her passions and her family, two central pillars that defined her life.
Watching TV was one of Janie’s simple joys, but her heart truly belonged to her grandchildren, whom she adored immensely. In earlier years, she found pleasure in reading and fishing—activities that brought her peace and connection to the world around her.
Janie’s family was a profound source of strength and love throughout her life. She is survived by her devoted sons, Dekki Jones (Karen) and Joey Jones, Sr. (Debra), both of Batesville, Mississippi. Her sisters, Sue Alred Morris and Teresa Alred Lott (Sam), along with her brothers, Junior Alred (Sue) of Courtland and Johnny Wayne Alred of Batesville, continue to cherish her memory. Janie’s legacy also lives on through her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who carry her spirit forward in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Elvin Thomas Alred, Sr. and Annie Josephine Still Alred, whose guidance helped shape the compassionate and nurturing woman Janie became.
