Janie Gray Tedford, age 77, passed away, Saturday, February 21, 2026 at her home in Batesville, MS.
Janie’s memorial gathering will be held at New Hope Church of God in Batesville, Mississippi, on March 21, 2026, 12:00 – 2:00 PM. This gathering will be an opportunity for friends, family, and loved ones to remember Janie's life, share stories, and celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
Janie was born on December 24, 1948, in Panola County, Mississippi, Janie’s life was a testament to warmth, kindness, and love. She was a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose legacy will forever resonate with those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Janie was the daughter of Charlie Eugene and Sadie Lou Williams Gray, who have welcomed her into eternal rest. She leaves behind a beautiful family that reflects her nurturing spirit. Janie is survived by her devoted daughters, Jennifer Tedford Little (Tony) of Imperial, Missouri, and Tawana Tedford Hill (Justin) of Batesville, Mississippi and the father of their children, Bobby Tedford of Batesville, MS. Her vibrant personality continues to shine through her six grandchildren: Dallas Holcomb (Kynli), Alexandria Little, Dawson Little, Jace Hill, Jameson Hill, and Teegan Hill. In addition, she is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Carter Holcomb, Kyndal Melton, Grayson Holcomb, and Laiyton Holcomb, who brought her immense joy and pride. Janie also leaves behind her two siblings, Frances Riley of Hernando, MS and Larry Eugene Gray (Debbie) of Batesville, MS.
Janie was known for her culinary talents, especially her famous ham and macaroni and cheese, which brought friends and family together at her table. A devoted churchgoer at New Hope Church of God, she found solace and joy in her faith and community. Singing was another of her passions, filling her life with melodies that uplifted her soul.
Her love for watching game shows and her favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys, reminded everyone around her of her vibrant and spirited nature. Saturdays were often reserved for SEC football, as she enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams. One of her cherished pastimes was coffee at Waffle House with her close friends, Faith and Patricia, where laughter and stories flowed freely.
