Jetty T. Whitsell, age 87, passed away on October 14, 2025, at the Country Meadows Personal Care Home in Greenwood, Mississippi. Born on July 30, 1938, in Tutwiler, Mississippi, Jetty was a lifelong resident of Batesville, known for her hard work and commitment to her career and community.
A celebration of Jetty's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements will be announced once finalized by her family.
For nearly 30 years, Jetty served as the supervisor at Panola Mills, where her leadership and dedication earned her the admiration and respect of her colleagues. Her contributions to the workplace were significant, reflecting her strong work ethic and devotion to excellence.
Before her health declined, Jetty was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville. Jetty also found immense joy in gardening and tending to her yard. Her love for nature was evident in the beauty she cultivated around her home, where flowers bloomed and greenery flourished, reflecting her nurturing spirit and passion for the outdoors.
Jetty leaves behind her two daughters, Angie Sutton of Batesville, MS, and Gayle Mason (Keith) of Starkville, MS; her three sisters, Nina Hayes of Greenwood, MS, Faye Clark of Pope, MS, and Mavis King of Washington; one brother, Corley Thompson of Scoobey, MS; her three grandchildren, Will Sanders (Mandi), Kori Ratcliffe, and Spencer Sutton (Darbi); and four great grandchildren, Tripp Sanders, Charlie Sanders, Luna Sanders, and Colby Leigh Ratcliffe.
Jetty is preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Whitsell; her parents, Joseph Oyett Thompson and Virginia Anthony Thompson; her grandson, Colby Mason; and her siblings, Daisy Joyner, Joe Thompson, Draper Mae Odom, Dotsy Joyner, Hilda Russell, Joann Sharp, and Mildred Gordon.
Her memory will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
