John Arnold Smith

John Arnold Smith, lovingly known as “Johnny,” was born on June 4, 1950, and entered his eternal heavenly home on January 25, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with the interment to follow at Black Jack Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate, Anita Holland Smith; his parents, Paul D. Smith, Sr. and Jean Arnold Smith; and his sister, Paula Smith Findley.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his brothers, William J. “Joe” Smith (Peggy) of Brandon, Mississippi, and Paul D. “Davey” Smith, Jr. (Dawn) of Batesville, Mississippi; his sister, Betty Price of Batesville, Mississippi; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Johnny worked in the family business, Tri-Lakes Sports Supply, until he began his career at Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association (TVEPA). He spent many years working diligently in service to his community until his retirement. A man deeply committed to his faith, he participated in numerous mission trips, including helping install water systems in Honduras, demonstrating Christ’s love through action and service.

A man of many talents, Johnny enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with The Pickers and Grinners, a group formed at Black Jack Presbyterian Church, where he was a faithful and active member. In the early years of their marriage, Johnny and Anita coached softball together, touching countless young lives and hearts through their encouragement and love of the game. Reminding them to always “DYB”— do your best.

Johnny will be remembered by all who loved him for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family and church family, and for consistently reflecting the love of Christ in his everyday life.
