Larry Rayburn, age 74, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the Panola Medical Center in Batesville, MS.

A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

Larry was born on April 16, 1947 to the late J.P. “Jake” Rayburn and Mable Lucille Britt Rayburn in Como, MS. He grew up in the Como and Sardis area, graduating from North Panola High School in 1965 to retiring there in Sardis, where he served as past president of the Lion’s Club. He was also a dedicated baseball coach there in Sardis to the local youth. Before retirement, Larry was a maintenance technician for Ole Miss. Larry was also a faithful member of the Blackjack Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and started the “bus ministry” where he would pick up children for church in community.

The family he leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Dorothy “Dot” Woods Rayburn of Sardis, MS; one daughter, Melissa Rayburn Ivy (Tommy) of Sardis, MS; one son, Scott Rayburn (Tonie) of Ripley, MS; five grandchildren, Justin Matthews (Emily), Tyler Matthews (Sissie), Mikayla Rayburn Myers (Trent), Elissa Rayburn, and Jayden Rayburn; 6 great grandchildren, Landon, Allison, Andrew, Parker, Kyler, and Kaysyn; 3 brothers which includes his twin brother, Harry Rayburn (Josefina) of Tupelo, MS, Otis Rayburn (Diane) of Canton, MS, and Gerald Rayburn (Mary Lois) of Germantown, TN; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Rayburn of Sardis, MS and Martha Rayburn of Crenshaw, MS.

Along with Larry’s parents, Larry is preceded in death by one grandson, Alex Rayburn; and 3 brothers, Johnny Rayburn, Franklin Rayburn, and Tommy Neal Rayburn.
