Madge Elaine Holloway

June 27, 1931 – September 5, 2025

Madge Elaine Holloway, of Sardis, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Elaine was the cherished daughter of the late Norbourne W. Fisher and Madge Gathings Fisher.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Robert E. “Bob” Holloway, who passed away on September 27, 2024. Fittingly, she departed this life on what would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary—a quiet, poignant reflection of the enduring love they shared. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and the rhythms of the land they worked side by side.

Elaine was the heart of the Holloway farm, where dairy cows, crops, and a sprawling garden kept life full and busy. Yet she always made time for what mattered most. Her summer meals were legendary—fresh vegetables from the garden, homemade pickles and preserves, and everyone’s favorite: fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. She cooked from scratch, preserved the harvest for the year ahead, and nourished not just bodies, but spirits.

Her love of nature ran deep. She found joy in birdwatching, raising native wildflowers, and stargazing under quiet Mississippi skies. She passed this reverence for the outdoors to her children and friends, encouraging curiosity, patience, and wonder. Elaine’s home was a place of warmth and welcome, where no one ever felt rushed, and there was always time for conversation, laughter, and connection.

She is survived by her sons: Robert Eugene “Bo” Holloway Jr. (Iris) of Como, MS; William Richard “Bill” Holloway (the late Sarah Jane) of Batesville, MS; and Barry Edward Holloway of Richmond, VA. She was a proud grandmother to Matthew Robert Holloway (Makayla) of Oxford, MS, and deeply valued the enduring friendship of Clarence Jenkins, their longtime farm helper and companion.

Funeral arrangements will be announced once finalized by her family.
