Mary Elizabeth Davis, 94, of Sardis, MS passed away at her home on October 27, 2026. Born in Hebron, MS on December 12, 1931, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of Mark Blakely and Tencil Blakely. She attended Sardis High School where she and her husband of seventy years, B.L. Davis, first met. After graduation, Mrs. Davis worked as a telephone operator in Sardis, MS until becoming a full-time mother to her children Susan Davis Whitmire and James Michael “Mike” Davis.

The young couple relocated to Clarksdale, Mississippi due to Mr. Davis’s position at the Illinois Central Railroad Station. After Mr. Davis’s retirement in 1992, they moved back to Sardis to be closer to many of their friends and family members. Mrs. Davis was a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove, MS, where she was an active church member involved in many aspects of the Church including teaching the women’s Bible study for years.

Mrs. Davis was renowned for her gracious spirit and vibrant love of life; she brought warmth and joy into every room she entered. An extraordinary cook and consummate hostess, she had a rare talent for turning any gathering into a special occasion. She greeted everyone she met with open arms and an infectious laugh that could brighten even the darkest of days. Her enduring legacy is one of boundless affection, joy, and the profound gift of making every individual feel cherished in her presence. While outwardly she possessed the gift of being a timeless beauty, her true radiance came from her spirit within.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter Susan Davis Whitmire (Donald) of Clarksdale, her son James Michael Davis of Sardis, and two sisters Betty Ashby of Como, MS and Jean Legge of Batesville, MS. She leaves five grandsons: Jeremy Whitmire of Madison, MS, Brandon Whitmire (Jessica) of Collierville, TN, Jordan Davis (Tori) of Little Rock, AR, Joshua Davis of Little Rock, AR, and Andrew Davis (Kirsten) of Little Rock, AR.
