Obituary

Paul E. Phillips, age 63, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.

Funeral services for Paul will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Paul was born on January 4, 1963 in Marks, MS to the late Robert Phillips and Connie Austin Kirkland. He devoted 36 years of his life to serving and protecting his community through a distinguished career in law enforcement. He spent most of his years with the Batesville Police Department, where he earned the admiration of colleagues and citizens alike for his unwavering commitment to justice and safety. He later continued his distinguished career at the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division until his retirement. Paul took great pride and joy in his work as a law enforcement officer, a passion that defined much of his life.

Following his retirement, Paul found pleasure in embracing the peaceful pastime of fishing and hunting, hobbies that brought him tranquility and fulfillment in his leisure hours.

Paul’s family was a source of great happiness and support throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Shelly Phillips of Crenshaw, MS; his sons, Jason Phillips and his wife Ellie of Courtland, MS; Matt Phillips and his wife Kris of Courtland, MS; Derrick Mink and his wife Jennifer of Pensacola, FL; and Gregory Mink and his wife Mallory of Georgetown, TX. Paul also took immense pride in his grandchildren—Georgia Phillips, Olivia Phillips, Paxton Phillips, Stella Phillips, Kailyn Mink, and Maddie Morneo—who brought joy and light to his life.

Paul’s family circle also extends to his two brothers: David Phillips and his wife Tina of Calhoun City, MS, and Mark Phillips of Crowder, MS.

Paul will be remembered with profound respect and affection by all who knew him. His steadfast dedication to public service, his unwavering commitment to his family, and his gentle spirit have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
