Richard Steven Parker

Richard Steven Parker, age 74, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at his home in Courtland, MS.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Courtland Baptist Church with the family receiving friends Friday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the church. Following the service, the interment will be at Enid Oak Hill Cemetery in Enid, MS.

Richard was born on August 1, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late William Felto and Marion Catherine Coker Parker. Richard brought warmth and light to those who knew him throughout his life.

Richard spent many years working in transportation at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston, MS. He ended his career at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford, MS, where his dedication and kindness touched countless patients and colleagues. Upon retirement, he left behind a legacy of caring and commitment that inspired all who had the privilege of working by his side.

Richard’s faith was steadfast—he was a devoted member of Courtland Baptist Church, where he worshiped, served, and fostered a sense of community. His love for the church was only matched by the love he had for his family and friends. He embraced each day with humility and gratitude, cherishing the bonds that defined his life.

Richard’s hands were never idle. A proud member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, he found camaraderie and adventure on the open road. Music was dear to him, especially playing the drums. Self-taught and endlessly resourceful, Richard could fix about anything, he approached every task with patience and skill.

Yet above all, the brightest part of Richard’s life was his devotion to loved ones. He leaves behind his wife, Virginia Parker, whose companionship and unwavering partnership brought him endless delight and support. His children—Madeline K. Parker White of Memphis, TN, Steven E. Parker of Courtland, MS, and Richard S. Parker, Jr. of Burleson, TN—each carry echoes of his wisdom and love. Richard was also a cherished stepfather to Kelli Thornton of Water Valley, MS and Michael Gann of Enid, MS, always generous with encouragement and affection.

Richard’s sisters, Deborah K. Parker Ware and Ann Parker Cosby both of Courtland, MS, survive him, holding dear the sharing of childhood memories. He reveled in his role as grandfather to four treasured grandchildren, and great-grandfather to three precious great-grandchildren, always quick with a kind word and ever-present smile.

He is also remembered by those who have gone before him in peace: his father, William Felto Parker; his mother, Marion Catherine Coker Parker; and his brother, Thomas William Parker. Their influence and love shaped Richard’s kind and loving heart.

Kind to all children and steadfast in his faith, Richard leaves a legacy of generosity, laughter, and boundless love. In every life he touched, his quiet virtue will echo for generations.
