Robert Eugene “Bob” Holloway, Sr.
Robert Eugene “Bob” Holloway, Sr., of Sardis, MS, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024. Born on September 28, 1928, in Wynne, Arkansas, Bob was the beloved son of the late Herman D. Holloway and Arnett Williams Holloway.
Bob dedicated his life to farming with Elaine and their sons, beginning as a dairy farmer and later raising crops and baling hay. He worked with youth and coordinated dairy cattle shows with the 4-H Club at the Mid-South Fair in Memphis, TN, and Mississippi livestock shows. After retiring from dairy farming, Bob continued his passion for agriculture by raising beef cattle, maintaining and clearing the farm with his trusty bulldozer, and especially loved baling hay up until only two years ago and riding the farm in his “buggy”. His hard work and dedication to farming and helping others were evident throughout his life.
Bob was also a proud Army veteran, having served his country with honor. In the 1990s he was a member of the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Elaine Fisher Holloway. He leaves behind three sons: Robert Eugene “Bo” Holloway, Jr. and his wife Iris Giles Holloway of Como, MS; William Richard “Bill” Holloway and his wife Sarah Jane Carter Holloway of Batesville, MS; and Barry Edward Holloway of Richmond, VA. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Robert Holloway of Oxford, MS. Bob also cherished the companionship of his long-time farm helper and friend, Clarence Jenkins.
A private burial will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, October 2, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Heflin House Museum, 304 S Main St, Sardis, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
