Robert Franklin "Sonny" Workman, Jr., age 91, passed away Friday morning, June 5, 2026 at his home in Sledge, Mississippi.

Funeral services for Sonny will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at the Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge, MS with the interment to follow at Longtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

Sonny, the youngest of six siblings, was born on December 30, 1934, in Rich, Mississippi to the late Robert Franklin Workman, Sr. and Lola Burrow Workman. Sonny was a lifelong pillar of strength and faith in his community, as well as a devoted farmer, cherished family man, and proud veteran of the United States Army. Faith was the cornerstone of Sonny's life. He was a faithful member of Hollywood Baptist Church, where he served seamlessly as a deacon for many years and taught Sunday School.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of many years, Mabel Gill Workman of Sledge, MS. His legacy continues through his two children: Elizabeth Smith (Keith) of Brandon, MS, and Robert "Bob" Nelson Workman (Lorrie) of Sledge, MS. The joy he found in family blossomed further with five grandchildren—Kristen Palmertree (Matt), Lauren Alred (Brett), Robert Caleb Smith (Daniele), Emily Elizabeth Miller (Austin), and Kaitlyn Paige Smith—and ten great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Along with his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Lynn Workman; and his siblings Lorena Bronson, David Workman, Opal Hales, Geneva Davis, and Charlie Workman.
