Roger Whittington, age 70, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the North MS Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Clear Springs Cemetery in Coffeeville, MS. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service.
Roger was born on February 14, 1955 to the late Paul and Mary Coleman Whittington in Crosby, Mississippi. For most of his career, Roger served as a health inspector, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of others until his retirement. His passion for service extended beyond his work; he was also an associate pastor at Tocowa Baptist Church for many years, where he shared his faith and inspired countless individuals. Roger’s steadfast character and unwavering moral compass were evident in all facets of his life.
Roger was an avid reader, with a particular focus on the Bible, reflecting his deep faith and desire to understand scripture more profoundly.
In addition to his professional and spiritual contributions, Roger found immense joy in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, indulging in activities such as hunting and fishing, and took great pride in maintaining his yard. Yet, nothing brought him greater happiness than his grandchildren. Roger cherished every moment spent with them, nurturing their growth and creating lasting memories together.
The family he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Stephanie King Whittington of Courtland, MS; two children, Amanda Bonner (Daniel) and Cole Whittington (Bethany) both of Courtland, MS; his two brothers, James Whittington of Natchez and Edward Whittington of Meadville, MS; and his four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Julianne, Bradley, and Ellis.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Dena Whittington; and his sister, Paulette Kelleher.
