Roy W. Burns, age 73, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at his home in Courtland, Mississippi.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at New Hope Church of God with Rev. Raymond Aven officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Roy was born on July 10, 1952 to the late Hayward C. Burns and Margaret Fowler Burns in Batesville, MS. A dedicated and hardworking man, he was a skilled carpenter by trade and also worked as a crane heavy machine operator throughout his life. Roy’s commitment to his work was a testament to his strong work ethic.
Roy was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. His deep love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he found great joy in sharing moments with them. Beyond his professional and familial commitments, Roy was an active member of New Hope Church of God, where he found spiritual comfort and fellowship.
In his leisure time, Roy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect with nature. Additionally, he had a green thumb and loved tending to his vegetable garden, nurturing it with the same care and dedication he gave to all areas of his life.
Those he leaves behind includes his children, Brittney Hawkins (Patrick) of Oakland, MS and Kenneth Pearson (Corrie) of Nesbit, MS; his two siblings, Linda Paige (Donald) of Water Valley, MS, and Gary Burns of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Eli Carlisle, Gabe Carlisle, Charlie Pearson, and Stella Pearson; and 3 great grandchildren, May Carlisle, Ruby Carlisle, and Riggs Carlisle.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters, Yvonne Odom, Bernice Fox, Lona Porter, Brenda Caggle, and Peggy Melton; and four brothers, Wayne Burns, James Burns, Rocky Burns, and Tommy Lee Burns.
