Russel Dean Covington, age 78, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at his home in Batesville, MS.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Victory Baptist Church in Courtland, MS. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 P.M.

Russell was born May 9, 1948 in Bruce, MS. He was the son of Robert and Grace Covington of Calhoun City, MS who preceded him in death.

Russell was a proud graduate of Calhoun City High School, Class of 1966. He never forgot his classmates and attended all his class reunions.

He was a longtime employee in construction as a heavy equipment operator and over the road 18 wheeler drive. Russell was with ACI Building Corporation for many years.

In his spare time, Russell always supported his family as his nieces play summer softball, which he dearly loved. He never missed a game. He was always in a deer stand during the winter trying his luck. Russell also enjoyed watching nature shows on TV.

Russel and Lenita called Victory Baptist Church home and loved the Lord with a passion.

Russell is survived by his wife Lenita of 53 wonderful years. He also leaves his son, Timothy Dean Covington (Lexa) of Morton, MS, his brother, Gary Covington (Kathy) of Oxford, MS, and two grandchildren, Grace and Clint Covington. Russell is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
