Sadie F. Lawrence

July 23, 1936 — November 24, 2021

Sadie Faggert Lawrence passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 24, 2021, at her home in Sardis, Mississippi.  Sadie was born on July 23, 1936, in Batesville, Mississippi, to Roy and Elizabeth Faggert.  Sadie is survived by her sister Hazel Faggert Waldrip, daughter Wanda Lawrence Carmichael, and son George Preston Lawrence, Jr. (Darlene), four granddaughters (Whitney Veazey, Brookley Carmichael, Magan Shipp, and Morgan Joyner), four great-grandsons (Slates Veazey, Jr., Preston Shipp, Andrew Shipp, and Thomas Joyner), and two great-granddaughters (Sadie Veazey and Nola Shipp).  Sadie’s husband of 47 years, George Preston Lawrence (“GP”) preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held on November 28, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Como Church of Christ, where the funeral ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m.  The interment service will follow the ceremony at 4:15 p.m., at Forrest Memorial Park.

From 1965 until GP’s death in 2000, Sadie worked alongside GP at Lawrence Brothers Painting, assisting with the bookkeeping duties and also helping her Batesville and Oxford friends with paint and wallcovering decisions.  Sadie was known around town as the “interior design” lady of Panola County.  Sadie was also heavily involved in the cattle business she and GP built together on their Panola County land, where she resided until her death.  Sadie was a longtime member of Como Church of Christ.

Sadie lived life to the fullest.  She loved her Ole Miss Rebels, spending countless weekends traveling to see the Rebels play with GP and friends.  And the food Sadie prepared for those she loved will never be matched.  Whether it was the countless vegetable sides she made for so many gatherings or the fried deer and quail she prepared for Christmas morning, anyone that was so fortunate to partake will never forget those tastes and smells.  Any description of Sadie’s life would be incomplete, though, without mention of the hours upon hours she spent on her porch surveying the rolling hills of the Double L Farm.  At no time did Sadie not know the precise number of cattle that roamed those hills.

However, Sadie’s love of family was unparalleled.  She was most happy and at peace when surrounded by her large family, whether it be during the holidays, during birthdays, during weddings, or simply during family cookouts.  Her presence (and food) at these functions will surely be missed.  It was only fitting that her entire family gathered for an early Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at her home for a celebration of Sadie’s life and the legacy she leaves behind.  The laughter and communion that filled her home that evening was felt by everyone – especially by Sadie.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Grace Place in Batesville, MS, or another charity of your choosing.
