Vera Miles

Vera Ann Miles, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 28, 2025 in Batesville, Mississippi.

Funeral services for Vera will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at the Sardis Lake Baptist Church with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Vera will be laid to rest there at the church cemetery.

Vera Ann was born on November 9, 1935 to the late Cornelius Virgil Adams and Nye E. Wilson Adams in Carpenter, Mississippi. She was a devoted and hard worker throughout her lifetime. She proudly served as the Chief of Police's secretary at the Clarksdale Police Department before her retirement. Her professional life was marked by integrity and commitment, reflecting her unwavering dedication to those around her.

Beyond her professional career, Vera was a deeply loving individual. She held a special place in her heart for her family, church family and her friends. Her faith was evident in every aspect of her life, and she was a faithful member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church, where she actively participated and served the Lord wherever she felt called.

In her personal life, Vera was very proud of her 43 years of sobriety and gave all the Glory to The Lord and used her testimony to help others over the years. She was known to be feisty but loving, enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and her church family. She had a passion for sewing, crocheting and working outside.

The family she leaves behind to remember her precious memory includes her two children, Betty Young (Al) of Batesville, MS, and Bob Ables of Foley, AL; six grandchildren, Bobby Ables (Autumn), Keri Ann Pittman (Kerry), Kris Matthews (Mallory), Blake Ables (Farrin), Billy Ables, and Amelia Ables; and nine great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband, David Miles; her son, Jimmy Ables; and two siblings, Herbert Adams and Pearl Chaffee.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. She will be cherished by all who knew her.
