Vernon Reynaud Butler, Jr. of Michigan City, Mississippi passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025 in Ashland, MS.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2025, in the Martin Willinmgham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday at Wells Funeral Home.
Vernon was born in Oxford, MS on Sept 14,1941 to Vernon R. Butler and Johnnie Scruggs Butler. He was raised in Batesville, Mississippi and graduated from Batesville High School in 1960. He was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church. He attended Arkansas State University where he played football until transferring to Mississippi State University. After graduating from Mississippi State University in 1964 with an Agriculture Engineering Degree, he purchased a farm in Benton County, MS and began life long farming career. He was also the owner of Benton Lawn and Tree Service. Being an avid outdoorsman, Vernon enjoyed hunting and cooking dinners with his life long friends at Caulk Island Hunting Club. He cherished that time with friends and being in nature.
He is survived by Elizabeth Graham Butler his wife of 60 years; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hoke (Andy) of Edmond , OK; son, Joseph Yancey Butler of Dallas, TX; daughter, Mary Grace Hill ( Weston) of Carmen, OK; grandson, Drew Hoke of Edmond, OK; sister, Bobbie Ruth Lavender of Roanoke, VA and his faithful employee, Sherman Griggs.
