Willie E. "Bill" Joiner, age 82, passed away late Sunday evening, October 31, 2021, at the Mississippi Veterans home in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 4, 2021, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Wells Funeral Home.
Bill was born August 14, 1939 in Pope, MS to the late James Loyd and Evelyn Foster Joiner Patrick. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS and honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was a longtime public servant of Panola County, as he served as Justice Court Judge for twenty-nine years, Chief Deputy for the Panola County Sheriff’s Department for eight years, and the Mississippi National Guard for six years for a total of 43 years of service. He truly loved Panola County and the people who lived here. When Bill retired, he had accumulated 1345 sick days. Bill had a servant’s heart and never met a stranger. He and his wife were the former owners of Warehouse Sales in Batesville, MS. Bill was a devoted family man, and he took great pride in coaching his grandson’s baseball teams. He attended any event that included his children and grandchildren with great pride including band concerts, football games, soccer games, choir concerts. If his family was part of it, Bill was there to support them. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and a good round of golf.
Bill’s loving and caring memory will be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Linda Williams Joiner; two daughters, Pamela Joiner Aven (Billy Van) of Courtland, MS, Angela Joiner Griffin (Greg) of Courtland, MS; sister, Shirley Alexander (Henry) of Collierville, TN; seven grandchildren, Christopher Glenn Durham (Lauren), Matthew Allen Durham (Rachel), William Hunter Durham (Diamond), Chase Joiner Durham (Tabitha), Carter Van Aven, Jacob Ryan Griffin, Gehrig Scott Griffin; seven great-grandchildren, Hudson Durham, Annabelle Durham, Grady Durham, Logan Durham, Riley-Kate Durham, Elaina Durham and Salem Durham.
Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Joiner Mehan, Ruby Joiner Beardmore, Katie Joiner Woolfolk; three brothers, Greek Joiner, Ernest Joiner and James Earl Joiner.
