Wrennie Veazey West, 91, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on July 31st, 2026. Wrennie's life was a testament to love, laughter, and dedication to her family and her church. Born on September 14, 1934 in Coldwater, Miss, to John Garrett Veazey and Elise Cocke Veazey. Wrennie was raised in Senatobia, Miss, where she spent the majority of her childhood. She graduated in 1952 from Senatobia High School, where she played basketball, and performed as a majorette. She went to Sullins College, in Bristol, VA before attending Ole Miss and pledging Kappa Delta. While there, she was elected an Ole Miss favorite. In the summer of 1953, Wrennie served as Senatobia’s second Miss Hospitality.
A strong believer in love at first sight and everlasting love, at age 19, Wrennie married the love of her life, John "Joe" West of Sardis, Miss, whom she remained happily married to for 61 years until his passing. Wrennie and Joe devoted their lives to loving and raising their four children. They both enjoyed frequent occasions on the Sardis Lake, sailing and entertaining their friends on their sailboat, the "Miss Wrennie". Wrennie was consistently optimistic in every life situation, naturally driven by her faith in God, she always spoke with positivity, and encouraged those around her even when she was experiencing the most tragic of losses. She would always say, "When one door closes, another door opens."
An active member of her community, Wrennie enjoyed playing tennis with her friends throughout the years, and she always held a strong hand playing Bridge up until her final days. She was a big fan of Ole Miss sports. Her friends and family said there was nothing like watching a game with Wrennie, she was quite the commentator. If she wasn't watching sports, she was enjoying her beloved Hallmark channel. Wrennie was a faithful member of the Sardis Methodist Church and remained a regular attendee to multiple Women's Bible Studies up until the very final weeks of her life. The joy of her life were her four children, her eight grandchildren and her seven great grandchildren. Wrennie committed her life to her family, her faith and her community. Her laughter always filled the room and through her uniquely kind, joyful spirit, many lives were touched.
Wrennie is survived by her three children: Russell Garrett West (Pam), Vicki West Clark (Harper), and William "Quinn" West, and by her grandchildren: Jackson Garrett West (Alyssa), Mary Blair West, Russell "Gray" West (Courtney), Victoria Quinn Clark, Wrennie Elizabeth West (Jimmy Seargeant), Catherine Elise Clark, and Wrennie Harper Smith (Zack), and by her great grandchildren: Garrett Edward West, Josephine Quinn West, Scarlett Elise Higbee, Samson Wales West, Lucy Gray West, Harper James Smith, and Joshua Wesley Smith, her sister-in-laws: Grace West and Becky Veazey and numerous nieces and nephews. Wrennie is predeceased by her husband: John "Joe" West Sr., her brother: John "Gary" Veazey, her son: John "Jay" West Jr and her grandson: Jonathan Quinn West.
The visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM on Wednesday August, 5, 2026 at Sardis Methodist Church, 237 S Main St., Sardis, MS, 38666. After the service, please join the family at the Heflin House, 304 S Main St., Sardis, MS, 38666.
